Easy pin cushions
These little pin cushions are really easy to make and can be great gifts. These ones are 10cm but you can change the size to suit yourself. For me though personally, I find this the perfect size.
You can make them as plain or as elaborate as you want to. You can use virtually any fabric within reason, obviously you need to be able to sick pins in to it!
Start by choosing your fabric, you need to really stick to the same type for the whole pin cushion as one side may stretch more than another. You can use different colour ways though to make things more interesting.
I used a selection of heavyweight tartan, light printed cotton and designers Inga Leo & Cath Kidston mid weight fabrics .
Its easier to use a template, you can make one yourself out of cardboard if you haven’t got one .
Cut 4 x 10cm triangles for each pin cushion. You need to start with 2 triangles, right sides together and sew up one side. Add another triangle and sew it to the other side of the first triangle. The same again with the third piece. On the final side leave a 3cm opening half way down so that you are able to turn your triangle right side out.
You need to stuff this now but don’t over do it, you don’t want it bulging but equally be aware to stuff it enough as you don’t want it sagging! So as the little bear said in Goldilocks ‘not too hard and not too soft but …just right’ 🙂
Finally if you have your own label pop it in the opening before sewing up.
There you have it, a lovely gift for someone or just for yourself 🙂
