Seaside theme throw

This was a really good project for me, I thoroughly enjoyed knitting every stitch. I was recovering from major surgery and was incapacitated but there was nothing wrong with my hands 🙂 so I decided to take up knitting.

I really enjoyed creating this, each square panel was sewn together when all the knitting squares had been completed. Then after the patchworking was done I knitted the bunting by picking up stitches all around the blanket edge.

All the little embellishments were little buttons and beads that I collected over the years and had stashed for just this sort of occasion. I’m really happy with the end result.

I did have a knitting pattern for the squares but I chose my own colours and added ‘extras’.

It measures approximately 60″ x 45″ (150 x 114cm)

  1. Do you have a pattern available for this lovely blanket?

    • Aww sorry, I haven’t got it anymore Judy, I saw something similar in a magazine years ago and based mine on that. It’s easy to design though if you get some squared graph paper, if i remember each square was cast on 40 stitches.

  2. That’s very pretty. It looks like a lot of work.

I crochet squares for a charity, Knit-a-Square based in Soweto.

The squares are sewn together by gogos (grandmothers) who get a payment for doing it and they are then distributed to creches.
