Onion gravy

Ingredients:

  • 30g butter
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 tbs flour
  • 400 ml beef stock ( I use 2 oxo cubes)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1tsp Bovril or browning

Method:

Gently heat the butter in a pan. Thinly slice the onion and add it to the pan. Sprinkle on the sugar and stir then leave to cook gently for 10 to 15 minutes stirring occasionally until lightly caramelised.

Add the flour stirring it in fast then add the stock slowly but stir fast or it will go lumpy! Bring to the boil then reduce the heat add the Bovril or gravy browning . When it’s fully incorporated take it off the heat.

Add the flour

Add Bovril & remove from heat
